Hi GUUNNIES!
Here at GUNNZO, our goal has always been to provide the San Diego community with all things Gunpla, Warhammer, anime, and nerd! This past month, we decided to kick it up a notch by trying out our first community get-together.
Warhammer 101
Earlier this year, we expanded our horizons in the hobby world and became a retailer for Games Workshop. This included Warhammer 40k, Age of Sigmar, Kill Team, and Horus Heresy. While we’ve seen many come to buy all the fixins’ for a killer army, many had come to us not quite knowing how the gameplay works. So we went ahead and planned out our first Warhammer 101 Gameplay.
We had our players team up in pairs and duke it out with Space Wolves vs. Necrons. In this game, they were able to learn the basics of going through turns, from movements to attacks and special abilities. To start them out, we made this a small 800-point game, which typically takes a couple of hours. But both sides made it clear they had no intention of losing, both rolling well enough to prevent being wiped off the battlefield. In the end, it was declared a tie with the number of objective markers collected.
All players and watchers had a great time! We’ll be doing these 101 gameplays for anyone wanting to learn or practice monthly. Our next one will be on January 18th!
Build & Paint Meetup
On top of gameplay, we also wanted to create a space for hobbyists to build and paint their models.
A few weeks go, we had our first Build& Paint Meetup, where both Gunpla and Warhammer hobbyists came to work on their models. Everyone brought their own model kit and welcomed others to see what they have been working on. If anyone had no tools or fogot to bring them, others were kind enough to share. Gunpla builders brought a variety of Gundam models to build and paint. Warhammer participants brought their Ultra Marines and Death Watch Space Marines. People, even with different hobbies, shared their working progress. Whether it was Warhammer miniatures or Gunpla, people exchanged their painting experiences with one another in a warm and welcoming manner.
We hope to continue more meetups and gameplays for the hobbyist community. Look forward to plenty more in 2026! If you have any suggestions of what you’d like to do at GUNNZO, let us know!
