What is GQuuuuuuX?

If you’re a Gundam fan or if you peeked into the hobby for a while, you’ve probably seen these odd looking Mobile Suits that look near human, yet not at the same time. Somewhere in that “Uncanny Valley” one could say. These designs are from the latest Gundam series, “Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX” If you’re wondering how on earth to pronounce this, it’s “G-Kwucks”. GQuuuuuuX(Which I will now call GQX), is a collaboration season of Gundam between the original studio Sunrise which have been working on animating the series for 45 years, and Studio Khara, known for their work on the Rebuild of Evangelion movies. This is a dream collaboration that was never thought to ever happen, yet here we are.

10 out of 12 episodes of the series have been released on Amazon prime as of the time of this writing and the story is just as confusing as its name. It takes place after the events of the original Mobile Suit Gundam(Gundam0079), but as with any alternate universe story, it had a twist in the beginning. In the first episode of Gundam0079, a young boy named Amuro Ray pilots the RX-78-2 Gundam to fend off the “Red Comet” Char Aznable. Gundam 0079 ends with the forces of Zeon defeated and the Earth Federation winning the “One Year War” at the beginning of the Universal Century Calendar Year 0080. This does not happen in GQX. Instead, Char captures the Mobile Suit known as the “White Gundam” and manages to secure Zeon’s independence from the Earth at the end of the “Zeon War of Independence.” 6 years later in UC0085, A girl named Amate Yuzuriha finds herself in the titular GQuuuuuuX, fighting in underground Clan Battles for her to realize her dream of going to earth.

If that small synopsis catches your interest, I highly recommend watching the series on Amazon Prime Video as it is an amazing show in my opinion. But I do wish to talk  about the Model Kits. The mecha design is done by Ikuto Yamashita, who is known for his work on the Rebuild of Evangelion films and even features Evangelion creator Hideaki Anno co-writing the script. Due to these influences, the mecha and Gunpla design of the Mobile Suits seen in GQX are incredibly influenced by Evangelion, making the bipedal war machines look more human and monstrous than the blocky, realistic designs of UC. I personally love the designs of the GQuuuuuuX and the other Mobile Suits and I’m excited for the day we have them in stock here at GUNNZO.

Because BANDAI are masters of their craft, the designs have been faithfully translated to the real world as GUNPLA. The HG GQuuuuuuX has some of the best possibility i’ve seen in GUNPLA and that makes more excited about the kits to come including but not limited to: Red Gundam, Gyan (Xavier Ver.), Gelgoog and the GFreD. And now, my dear reader is where I plug the pre-order because this is a business after all.

The HG GQuuuuuuX model kit is now in stock and available for purchase at GUNNZO.com, and it’s just as impressive in person as it looks on screen. In addition, we’re now taking preorders for the other upcoming kits from the series. If any of these incredible designs have caught your eye, don’t miss out!
